Dominoes is a traditional Chinese board game that utilizes 28 pieces, commonly referred to as a "double-six" set. It is typically played by two to four individuals and, similar to card games, boasts various rule variations. Below, we provide a few examples of different gameplay scenarios.
Despite its long history, the exact origins of dominos remain shrouded in mystery. Some speculate that the oldest recorded instance of the game was discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun.
At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt either seven or six dominos (depending on the number of participants) with the numerical markings concealed from view. The remaining dominos act as a draw pile.
The player holding the highest double (in this case, double six) commences the gameplay. If no one possesses this particular domino, the player with the highest-value double takes the lead instead. Subsequently, each player must place a domino piece with an equal number of points on at least one side of the previously played domino.
For example, if a domino featuring three and two points is in play, the following participant must place a domino that shares either a two or three on one side. In the event that a player possesses a matching domino, they place it adjacent to the previous piece. If they do not hold a suitable piece, they draw from the pile and pass their turn. Gradually, these played dominos form an interconnected chain.
The objective of dominos is to be the first player to successfully place all of their dominoes on the board. However, it is possible for gameplay to become blocked. In such cases, victory is awarded to the player with the fewest accumulated points.
